Made in the Middle .. Exhibition and Artist Talks

Just before Christmas Imogen Lundy and Jennifer Collier who are exhibitors in the Made in Middle exhibition which is currently on tour and showing in Hereford Museum - came into college to speak to our students about her work, she uses the laser cutter to make things from a table, to china plates and cake stands.

“Made in the Middle is a triennial exhibition originated by Craftspace and this year developed in partnership with mac birmingham and The National Centre for Craft and Design. The open selected exhibition features work by makers of various disciplines in or affiliated to the Midlands.

The periodic nature of Made in the Middle offers Craftspace the opportunity to build on previous shows to examine what is happening within the craft sector nationally. In light of the changing climate and recent closures to University applied arts courses, this Made in the Middle explores 'Pathways to Craft'.

The aim of the exhibition is to demonstrate different routes into a making career, through the exhibitors selected and once there how makers can develop a sustainable business through a portfolio of roles. So Jennifer and Imogen have been invited to come to talk, not only about their practice but also the other activities they do as makers to maintain a viable career.”

The talks were informative and inspiring , if you get chance go and see the exhibition ..

Made by Hand - Nic's first sale

Today is Nic's birthday and as well as having her work exhibited she has also made her first sale to fellow exhibitor Jed Green , there's nothing better than selling your first piece of work especially to a high profile maker like Jed who fell in love with Nic's whittled spoon as soon as it came out of the bubble wrap on the first day we were here.

Congratulations Nicola what a great birthday and I'm sure they'll be plenty more sales to follow .. There's been lots of interest in her work all weekend ..
