Ukraine Post 2 - First night in Kiev

Flew into Kiev in the early evening and picked up the hire car first impressions include the lack of any road markings in six lanes of city traffic and how warm it is ... having finally found the Hotel we all book in and then off to explore the city ... The central square has a stunning Cathedral and there's lots of street entertainers and a great cosmopolitan feeling of a vibrant city , I loved the small vending stalls which lined both streets it looks like everything has just had a lick of paint before the European Cup which begins in just a few weeks.

The evening was full of conversations about the latest range of Massey power hammers as well as tweaks to the final designs for the forge competition .Dinner included a Ukrainian speciality called Fat ... Which turned out to be you guess it raw slices of pig fat accompanied with raw grated horseradish and cloves of uncooked garlic and onion !! It was all eaten but it just wasn't right !! I expect a few had terrible ingestion !!

Tomorrow we drive to the festival which I'm hoping will take no more than eight hours over bumpy roads !
